Could I ask members who are equipped with underwater cameras and happen to come across a very nasty net, to take pictures of the same and post the information here.
The information we need is:

  • exact location (if possible more precise than just the name of the dive site!)
  • at what depth the net was found
  • date taken
  • estimated size (if possible)
  • any other particular observations

Hi, on the 14 sep 2009 we were carrying out at a dive at the site known as "the garden"  (the wall near the wreck of Al Mummasir) and came across disused lines and net in depths from 15 to 6 mtr, the redundant lines were wrapped around coral head and the damage was evident by all the broken corals lying around, a trangled net was also floating at about 7 mtr,  the GPS mark I have for this area is
N23. 31'110" E058.45'317".  Also in this area was an orange metal bouy (coservation type) which i believe was spotted on the wreck a few weeks ago with a broken chain and this mayhave drifted off and now be caught in the rocks.  I have pictures but need to crop them (with help) or i can email them

On the 18th Sep 2009 we were carrying dives at the site known Ras Abu Daoud  on the SE tip the area is littered with nets off varying shapes and sizes,  A dead large (1.5 shell) green turtle was found close by, arecent addition to the one thnat was found a few weeks ago in the same area.  The marks for the SE tip are N23.19'16.19" E58.55'11.00".  Again I have picture sof the dead turtle and the net for your info should you require then

cheers for now nabs
